How do I treat algae?

Posted by cara knapp on

Since there are many different types of algae and, in turn, countless possible treatments, it's usually best to start with the nature and color of the algae when seeking treatment advice.

Shock or super-chlorination tends to be the most-utilized approach; however, the use of a powerful and all-inclusive treatment product may be preferred.

Regardless of method, keeping filters clean and running the pump continuously are key to ensuring success.

It's always a good idea to have a professional water test performed prior to, during, and after any algae treatment in order to ensure proper recommendations and water balance parameters are maintained.

And, of course, always follow the manufacturer's directions, guidelines, and precautions on any labels for products being used.
